Hey Canmore! There's no such thing as a quiet week here - not when The Boss is roaming and the event calendar is bursting with great stuff. Last fall, Banff’s biggest bear made his Canmore debut, and now he’s back in the spotlight as grizzly season kicks off again. Check out our full story on the legendary bear’s visit and what it means for living wild in the Bow Valley.

🐾Boss Moves: This Week's Wild Spotlight 👑
When the Boss Came to Town - Canmore's Wild Visitor 🐾
Last November, Canmore experienced something few ever expected - a visit from Banff’s most famous grizzly, The Boss. Yes, that Boss. The 600-pound legend wandered into the Cougar Creek neighbourhood, feasting on berries and giving residents a wild story to tell for years to come.
While Canmore locals are no strangers to wildlife, this was a different level. Bear 122 isn’t just any bear - he’s the long-standing dominant grizzly of the Bow Valley, known for his size, survival stories, and fathering most of the valley’s younger bears. His Canmore cameo was the first time he’d ever been recorded this far into town. And let’s just say... people noticed.
It was a powerful reminder that Canmore, for all its modern charm, is still deeply connected to the wild world around it. Parks Canada responded swiftly, hazing The Boss away from homes and reinforcing the importance of fruit tree removal and attractant management. Because when bears like him come looking for food, it’s often a sign that natural sources are scarce or harder to access.
Now, as The Boss awakens for the 2025 season, Canmore remains on alert. Not out of fear, but out of respect. His presence is a chance to reflect on how we live alongside these wild neighbours.
